Test strips are available at a variety of locations around Vancouver Island Health through the Vancouver Island Drug Checking Project. Please visit substance.uvic.ca or more information.

The following locations use both FTIR and immunoassay strips (fentanyl and benzodiazepines) in their drug checking services:

Nanaimo:

  • Canadian Mental Health Association (250 Albert Street OPS – Entrance on Dunsmuir Street). Open daily: 11am – 8:30pm.

Victoria:

  • The Vancouver Island Drug Checking Project provides services in Victoria. More information on their program can be found on their website. (1802 Cook Street, Victoria); Tel: 250-415-7637 Monday to Saturday, 12pm – 6:30pm (closed Sundays).

The Vancouver Island Drug Checking Project also provides services in the following distributed model drug checking sites:

Campbell River: (1330 Dogwood Street, Unit #5); Tel: 250-895-1825; Open daily: 9am – 7pm.

Comox Valley: (355 6th Street, Courtney) Tel: 250-338-7400; Open: Monday to Thursday 9am – 4pm and Friday 11am – 3pm.

Duncan: (5878 York Road, Duncan); Tel: 250-597-7779; Open daily: 11am – 7pm.

Port Alberni: (3699, 3rd Avenue, Port Alberni); Tel: 778-419-0016; Open: Monday to Friday: 8am – 4pm.
