The BCCSU Drug Checking Project has developed an online training platform with resources to support new trainees in their journey to becoming drug checking technicians in British Columbia.
New trainees in British Columbia should register under "BCCSU Drug Checking Technician Training" on the intake form. For anyone outside British Columbia, or if you are only interested in learning more about drug checking, please register under "BCCSU Drug Checking Webinar Series" on the intake form. Descriptions are as follow:
- Drug Checking Webinar Series: A 7-part webinar series that introduces the basics of drug checking with FTIR and test strips in community settings. The webinar series is intended for those who want to gain foundational knowledge of drug checking with these technologies.
- Drug Checking Technician Training: In addition to the 7-part webinar series, trainees will complete a practicum of a minimum of 30 hours of hands-on shadowing. Trainees must have a sponsoring organization with a supervising technician to oversee the practical training component. They are required to log their shadowing hours on this platform. Once the minimum of 30 hours is met, a final exam will be unlocked and administered on the platform. The shadowing program is currently only available to people in British Columbia.
